PS Law Solicitors – Helping You Find the Right Solutions for Your Family

The breakdown of a relationship can be one of the most stressful and emotionally challenging times in life. Understandably, your greatest concern is likely to be your children – where they will live, how they will maintain meaningful relationships with both parents, and how to protect their wellbeing through the transition.

At PS Law, we understand how important these decisions are. As a parent, you know your child best, and we believe that wherever possible, arrangements should be made by agreement – not conflict. Family Court Judges support this approach, and in most cases, alternative dispute resolution methods such as mediation must be considered before court proceedings begin.

However, when agreement isn’t possible, we are here to help. You can ask the Family Court to decide what arrangements are in the best interests of your children – and we’ll be by your side every step of the way.

We offer sensitive, constructive legal advice to help parents and other family members resolve matters amicably, whether through negotiation or court proceedings. Our goal is always to reduce conflict and focus on what’s best for your children.

How We Can Help

We provide expert advice and representation in a wide range of Private Law children-related legal matters, including:

Child Arrangement Orders
(formerly known as custody and contact)
Decide where a child lives, who they spend time with, and how often. These orders help establish a routine and ensure both parents (or carers) maintain a relationship with the child.

Parental Responsibility (PR)
Grant legal rights and responsibilities to a parent or guardian, such as making decisions about education, healthcare, and religion.

Specific Issue Orders and Prohibited Steps Orders
Resolve a particular dispute between parents or carers, such as which school a child should attend or whether they should receive a specific medical treatment.

Relocation cases
(within the UK or internationally)
Seek permission from the court to move a child to a different part of the UK or abroad, especially when the move may affect contact with the other parent.

Special Guardianship Orders (SGO)
If you are caring for children of other family members, or considering this as a long term arrangement, then applying for a Special Guardianship Order may provide a stable legal foundation. These orders ensure decision-making rights as a carer, and can provide access to vital support to help the evolving needs of the child you are caring for.

Adoption
If you are considering adopting this can be a daunting process, and we can advise you on the steps you need to take from a legal perspective. Adopter parents may also need advice on accessing a range of post-adoption support from services, and assistance with identifying which agency is best placed to help support you and your child.
